  • Porter Airlines is adding new seasonal routes from Phoenix to Vancouver and Ottawa.
  • The routes will operate during the winter 2026 season.
  • Porter is known for an economy experience that includes no middle seats.

One year after Porter Airlines began flying from Phoenix, the Canadian low-cost carrier is expanding service for winter travel.

Porter announced new seasonal routes to Vancouver, British Columbia, and Ottawa, Ontario, from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, part of an announcement of four new winter routes to warm-weather destinations.

These new destinations follow Porter’s inaugural route from Phoenix, which flies to Toronto. Porter’s Phoenix-Toronto flights welcomed more than 66,000 passengers from October 2024 to August 2025, according to Sky Harbor’s passenger traffic data.

Porter also shared that it teamed up with American Airlines on a codeshare partnership to connect travelers flying between the U.S. and Canada. Phoenix is one of American’s hub airports.

What is special about Porter Airlines?

Porter Airlines is popular for offering an economy experience with no middle seats, free Wi-Fi, free snacks and free beverages, including beer and wine served in glassware.

PorterClassic Basic and Standard fares require you to pay for seat selection; Flexible and Freedom fares include seat selection.

Porter Airlines also offers the premium economy PorterReserve, which includes free seat selection, dedicated check-in, extra legroom, up to two checked bags free, in-flight meals (which cost extra for PorterClassic flyers) and the ability to make changes at no additional charge beyond the difference in fare.

Porter Airlines adds routes despite declining Canadian travel

Porter’s new Phoenix-Vancouver and Phoenix-Ottawa routes are notable because they buck a trend of Canadian airlines pulling back U.S. service in favor of flights to Mexico and the Caribbean.

About 20.4 million Canadians visited the U.S. in 2024, responsible for $20.5 billion in spending and supporting 140,000 American jobs, according to the U.S. Travel Association. But about 20% fewer Canadians visited in the first six months of 2025, it said.

Experts say Canadian travelers and snowbirds are choosing not to travel to the U.S. in protest of tariffs on Canadian goods and President Donald Trump’s calls to annex Canada as “the 51st state.”
